Cycling Diary pt 4: Caldicot Castle

This weekend I cycle the St. David’s Foundation Caldicot Castle ride with Joe. Unfortunately, we were the only two from the group to turn up but we had a great ride and thanks to Joe who was an excellent partner. The ride was billed as 40 miles although my GPS said 37 miles and we did it in 2 hours 55 mins.

We went passed Severn Bridge tolls and across the Gwent marshlands - all flat. And then the tough bit, across the A48 up through Parc Seymor to the top of Wentwood. What a killer - steeper than Trellech Hill of last week but only 3 miles. Fantastic downhill through Shirenewton and Llanfair Discoed. I seemed to be faster on the flat but Joe was quicker up the steep bit. I really know I’ve done a ride now though.

We met the Chief Exec of St David’s Foundation who was giving out the refreshments at the end. And we also met Adrian - serious hand shake - Hadley; I reckon he is looking to lead us astray on the beers. Thanks to everyone at St David’s Foundation and especially Kris who had organised a really good ride, very well signposted and marshalled.
